You can die just as easily in Fallout as in The Elder Scrolls. Sure a dragon could attack your town or you can be hacked limb from limb by The Legion or turned into a feral ghoul or be attacked by any other mutated creature. All I can say is at least in Elder Scrolls you can defend yourself if you were to learn magic or have any of the other cool abilities.
