hi I was just wondering that is legal or legal to jtag ur xbox and be able to play online or will I have to buy a new xbox for jtag stuff and keep it offline only I only want it to have some fun

1. You will need to buy a Jtag( New console) because im pretty sure your console isn't jtaggable.

2.There is no "Jail Time" for it. The worst thing that will happen is you get console banned on your regular xbox. So does it go against the Xbox Code of Conduct stuff? yes. So I guess in some essence it is illegal?

jtag/rgh's arent illegal but you can do things with them that can be illegal (piracy) and no dont use it online you will get console/IP banned almost instantly

Nothing in it is illegal at all! Putting games on it is, patches, and ISO's. Microsoft tried just the same as Apple to get a law passed that it is illegal to tamper with their software, Which got shot dead in the water. It is not illegal nor will it ever be illegal to mess with your property.
