Here are answers to all of the comments questions and concerns:
i put in my phone number and it keeps saying wrong number?
You have to set the correct Country too. If you live in the US put Canada.

how do I change the number associated with the account?
You can't as because that is your login username.

do i have to turn off auto renewal?
No

I've used your new link, and I'm signed in to a XBL Silver account, but I still get this message:

I just did it again and it was fine. It has to not have a 2-day or any XBL Gold on it. Try just making a new account and see if that would work. Make sure you use the new link too.

I Tried the new link, with a new account, and never recieved the month of Gold.

EDIT: It does work but i forgot to confirm purchase
