10. Atari 2600 (1977)

Some would wonder why this is not higher because this is the grandfather of all game consoles. The reason why is while it was the 1st real game console it almost killed the console industry as a whole in the Video Game Crash of 1983. It would allow anyone to make a game because they had no licences. So companies that were not in the gaming industry at all were releasing horrible cheap games and Atari saw no profit. They also released disastrous 1st party games like ET.

9. Playstation 3 (2006)

This is here because of the many problems it faced during its lifetime. The two main ones being that it was hacked and second was that it was harder for developers to develop the same games as its competitors because of the architecture.

8. Sega Dreamcast (1999)

The Dreamcast packed a huge punch and was the best around until the end of its short lifetime. It introduced online multiplayer to consoles.

7. Playstation (1995)

It was an incredibly powerful console that had a large variety of games. It introduced one of the best controllers for a gaming system ever, which layout of buttons is still in use today. It also was the first major console to stop using cartridges and use a CD.

6. Nintendo 64 (1996)

This is right here because of its amazing popularity and games that came out for it. Come on we all loved the N64.

5. Xbox 360 (2005)

The Xbox 360 brought advanced graphics to the gaming market as the first 7th generation console released. It has had a huge variety of games with one of the best online services to date.

4. Super Nintendo Entertainment System (1991)

This had a huge amount of classics probably surpassing most consoles. The new 3D gaming capabilities blew people away.

3. Sega Genesis (1989)

Segas greatest console that was a huge success and some of the best platformers ever.
2. Playstation 2 (2000)

JUST WOW! The best selling console of all time with 153 Million+ sold. It had 3870 games and counting. (FIFA 14 will be released on the PS2)
