AM3+ 8-core CPUs have nothing virtual as clearly shown by the die shot.

All threads correspond to physical cores, but these cores are grouped into modules of two to share resources. As you can see, i7s have four physical cores, each with a virtual Hyperthreading thread.

Different approaches. If you don't think the extra threads can be put to use, look up some BF3 multiplayer and Crysis 3 benches.

Well thank you for that, tomshardware lied.... If I can find the post I'll link it. They went into detail about the 4 extra cores.
