I realize that rants on this subject usually devolve into flame wars and end up being closed but I want to post it any way.
I've put together some of the strongest arguments for gay rights and why being homosexual isn't a bad/unnatural/wrong/immoral/disgusting thing.

Obviously I can't change the opinions of those of you who just find it weird seeing two guys or two girls kissing in public, that's something that you can only change or deal with.

The view from Religion:

Religion has always stated that homosexuality is an abomination because, to paraphrase, God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.

Well, that's true.
However, in Mosaic law where God stated, "You shall not lie with a man as with a woman; that is an abomination."
This was written in a time when Homosexual relationships occurred solely between masters and slaves. God saw this in the same light as non-consensual intercourse, so yes, he would have seen it as an abomination.
However, today it is consensual most of the time and includes the benefit of love and compassion.

Jesus was entirely mute on the subject of Homosexuality, but he changed a lot of Mosaic laws such as, "An eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth." to more loving and peaceful laws like, "If a man strikes your right cheek, turn to him your left.", meaning that Jesus could have easily thought that Homosexuality was OK with societal changes.

This verse speaks for itself:
"I grieve for you, Jonathan my brother; dear and delightful you were to me; your love for me was wonderful, surpassing the love of women."

The view from nature:

A lot of people like to argue that Homosexuality is a choice.
Psychology, neurobiology and sociology has determined that it is a result of genetics, hormones, upbringing and environment.

In a study, Biometric modelling revealed that in men, genetic effects explained 34:39 of the variance in sexual orientation.
In women, 64:66.
The numbers speak for themselves.

Homosexuality occurs in over 1,500 animal species as well, meaning that it is a natural occurrence in the search for love and companionship.

The view from society:

I've never understood the argument from the viewpoint that says two men or two women cannot be good parents and their child will be bullied.

Firstly, a child wouldn't be bullied for having homosexual parents if homosexual acceptance was increased.
Secondly, two heterosexuals who have known each other for 5 minutes and have been drunk the entire time can get married in front of God, but two homosexuals who have loved each other for 10 years will be turned away.

There is no evidence to show that homosexuals would be bad parents and with the number of children currently waiting in foster homes society needs to wise up and allow willing parents to do the job that a heterosexual couple didn't want to or financially couldn't do.

I hope this has changed some views on the subject, probably very naively, but I've seen a lot of homophobic and insensitive comments today so I needed to vent.
I apologize if this infringes any rules [from what I can see it doesn't.]

I truly hope this can stay an intellectual conversation, without the rant trolls who can't even form an opinion unless the media tells them to.

As for the Religious standpoint:

- In my opinion, the bible is one large maze of contradictions, twists, and confusing turns.
As stated in Leviticus 18:

"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

To most, they take it for what is seems "Loving another man as you should a woman is wrong". The entire biblical book of Leviticus is contradicting, for example, it states that it is not wrong for men to have sexual relations with a spouses child (Like a step father molesting his stepchild it says isn't wrong).

This seems like an abomination. If someone gave me advice regarding homosexuality, then told me to follow that also, I wouldn't trust them more than I trust my government. People only take the parts of the bible that benefit them, and completely disregard the other sections that spout blasphemy such as the views on Incest in the Leviticus chapter 18.

As for the view in nature, I never viewed homosexuality as a choice, however I am hetrosexual, so I cannot provide life experience towards this. My argument: If it was a choice, then why don't these poor high school kids being bullied to the point of suicide just "Change"? Why did they choose suicide over just changing something that some people take so lightly? It's what they're born with, and are ridiculed over the feelings they naturally have, which they in most cases beat them selves up over because they don't understand them, and can't change the way they are. It (Please excuse my language if this offends you) pisses me off to no extent to hear the ignorant idea of "Therapy is the proper cure to homosexuality". These people need to have therapy themselves, not the perfectly acceptable people of society being judged over false assumptions.

If you don't agree with my opinions, I have no problem with that as you are free to form your own. However, if you feel you have the right to bash on mine because you feel you have the god given right to, then we have a problem

/rant

:nyancat: for that possibly angry rant

I am not going to lie, I am neutral when it comes to topics like this.

I could care less if someone wants to be gay. It's their choice, and nobody should be able to tell them differently because they have the freedom to choose what gender they are attracted to.

This doesn't mean that I agree with a man and a man marrying, or if two women marry, because in my opinion it isn't natural and it isn't the way that it's meant to be.

But hey, if two guys/girls want to get married, why should I care? It isn't affecting me at all!

-Thanks for posting this, by the way!

If it doesn't affect you, why do you care if they get married? It makes them happy, I don't see why you should think it's unnatural.

Their happiness is unnatural to you? I think you need to put yourself in their shoes. It's the same as you being happy with a spouse, their spouse that they love happens to be the same gender.

The way I look at it:

I don't mind if someone wants to be with someone of the same sex, I could care less. Love who you want.. how does that affect my life. I will admit I am a bit prejudice when it comes to cross dressing but honestly.. when I sit back and think about it I really don't care.

TL;DR - Do what you want, who cares what people think.

I specifically said I don't care.. I'm just saying I don't think that it is natural.

I've shown that it occurs in nature, both our cynical and straightforward viewpoint of it and the broader sense of the word.
Everything is natural and if you want to take it not being natural, without conscience, love wouldn't exist, so if you want to take that view of 'natural', a man and a woman being together isn't natural either.

Being attracted to a person isn't about what their body consists of.
