Boar wrote As people said the 7950 with latest drivers is a very good card, however I heard one say up the a 7970 and if you are going to do that go for latest gen and the GTX760.

The GTX760 is cheaper than the 7970 and has higher clock speed, memory clock speed and better power consumption.

Power Consumption is not the biggest issue on desktops.
But haswell a cooler when oc'd
Less power consumption = Less electricity costs, around $100 a year is on the GPU alone..

Ahh but gpus are not Dumb, they only use full power while your in a game/stressing it.
Indeed, but this is for gaming..

I own a gaming pc and the power usage is pretty low.. my gpu is 3Gb 7950

The 760 and 7950 are very close in terms of performance. However, for less money than a stock 7950, you can get a really nice cooler on a 760:

Plus it's a newer card and more efficient.

The 760 and 7950 perform nearly equally in almost every way. Power consumption should be about the same. Since the 760 is newer and a bit cheaper and you won't have to worry about getting a card with a somewhat crippled BIOS, the 760 with Gigabyte's Tringle cooler is what I suggest.

Facilities wrote If you want some really intense graphics get dual 680's i was going to do that for my 3D gaming rig but decided not to get an overkill rig and infact just buy a 400 rig.

if he were to get dual 680's just get a 690
also if you have alot of monry you could get the 7990
its dual 7970 in 1 card same as 690 with 680

WHY are people suggesting 680s and 7970s? Way out of the price range and completely irrelevant.

The 760 is (as r00t said) a newer card, won't have a crippled BIOS, and will actually work well if you add another one in SLI, and is cheaper. However, with the 7950, you can probably sell the free games to get at the very least 30-50 of whichever currency you use. Your choice, it doesn't matter too much.

The Never Settle deal with the 7950 has ended, I believe, but the 760s on Newegg come with Splinter Cell Blacklist. This makes the 760 an even better deal.

Really? It's still on the card I plan on buying (a 7970) and one for a friend (7870 XT), so that's unusual.

so i was looking at comparisons for the 760 vs 7950, i decided on the 760 since it came with blacklist and was overall cheaper. i saw there was barely any fps differences in comparison charts as well. thanks to those that suggested the 760 over the 7950.

oh and if youre curious, i decided to give PNY a try out [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] since PNY has a lifetime warranty
