Do I have to do it as soon as the drives menu shows up? like right away? or can I take my time up until the point that I take out the disc

Wait for the installation to get to 1%, the disc should be spinning really fast by then. That's when you have to hotswap. Hope I helped.

personally it just sounds like it's gonna be a bit of trial and error, keep at it and have a look at some youtube videos if you can't get it, if after some time you still can't get it working I suggest maybe having another go at burning a copy as a new disc might just make the difference.

exactly, i had to try it a few times when i first got my disc. just try both suggestions one of them are bound to work otherwise it has to be something with the disc

What I did is waited for the Select Storage Device box to pop up, then got ready to hotswap, hotswapped it and as soon as you have hotswapped you need to click the hard drive.

Selecting the hard drive straight after hotswapping is important, you MUST select the hard drive STRAIGHT after you have hotswapped.
