Looks good to me, however I would get 32g of ram and use the saved money on the new IBE processor that will be released in a month.
It will work with the X79 anyway so you could also upgrade later if you want.

I think the 3820 isn't the way to go, you'd probably get better performance out of a 3770k/4770k for basically the same price. Most Haswell boards also support up to 32gb RAM if you go with Haswell.

HIV wrote if your going to spend that much why not go for a next gen cpu?
And why the hell are you spending $600 on ram???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
get a ssd instead of that much ram :L
You don't need a 850w for that setup just get a 600-750w...
for the case the gun metal colour looks a lot nicer I know as I have the black one and it shows dust quite bad.. (glossy)
Actually the sande bridge-e overclocked will out perform all of the 4th gens, but will use more power. If hes spending that much money I think he would be better off getting an IBE. I agree with the ram and case though.

BigWes wrote Lets see, excessive amount of wasted money on RAM, no HDD, go with Windows 7 Home premium cheaper and about the same functions, I agree with the other posters on buying a new 4th gen CPU. Go for 32gb or lower even though your a graphics designer you could put the money to upgrades or to anything else you wish.I'm not wasting money on RAM, this isn't for gaming only. I have a HDD, also Windows 7 Home premium doesn't support 64gb ram. The Intel i7 3820 is the best I could find which will run 3D design and game design engines at its best, for the budget i'm at, also the 4770 and 3770 doesnt support 64gb ram. 64gb ram also is needed for rendering, which is a huge factor in 3D design. The motherboard I currently have is also a great board with the CPU and Memory I have. As I enter my second year studying 3D design, and concept painting, this is the perfect setup for 3D concept design and gaming. Thanks for the suggestions though!

BringTheFame wroteSyphox wrote Sorry buy I'm laughing too hard.. Why do you need 64Gb of ram?I'm going into my second year, studying CGI/concept design, 3D programs such as 3ds Max, zBrush, game engines, and even blender can use up over 64gb of ram when in use. Also matte work and CGI work in Adobe After effects can require well over 64gb of ram. The computer I use now in our studio has 64gb ram and still can have a hard time running adobe products smoothly, I also enjoy pc gaming too, which is why I want something which can run everything I need without struggle. Thanks for the concern!
I have 8gb of ram and i run all adobe programs just fine ! most id have is 16 , 64gb is a waste imo

you wont need 64gb, only 32gb of ddr3 ram would be more than enough. trust me. i used to use 3d modelling software on a daily basis.

Guys, he can take advantage of the RAM as he stated so stop trying to tell him he can't.
Here's my suggestion; it should save you some money but perform better: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

It does have a 770 instead of a 780 because at 1080p, there are few games that can actually benefit from a higher-end card. You might want to spend the money on more storage or a 3930K, depending on your needs. Maybe the 780 is what you're after, but judging from what you've posted, it seems like the money would be better-spent elsewhere.
