Well, in my opinion it is.
Unique gameplay and amazing storylines.
Assassins Creed 2 just blew my mind the first time I played it, the others are also brilliant.
Although I definitely prefer Ezio to Connor.
Plus the whole Desmond story is pointless and takes away from the immersion of the main story.
But still, without question, Assassins Creed is an awesome franchise!
Let me know your thoughts

You do realize that Desmond's story WAS the main story, right? I know it seems that since you barely played as Desmond that it wasn't the main story, but without Desmond's story, you wouldn't be reliving Altair's, Ezio's, Connor's, or Edward's life. But yeah AC is one of the best.

1st place goes to Fallout.
2nd place goes to Bioshock.
3rd place goes to Call of Duty.
Although AC2 was amazing!

My ranking:
1.Dark Souls
2.Skyrim
3.The Last of Us
4.Metro Last Light
5.Outlast (Will be the scariest game, but demo is the only thing out.)
OT: AC. wasn't really that good TBH. the only reason it's really popular because you can jump from buildings. If you want a game exactly like it go to 'Prototype' it's SOOOOOOO much better, and you can jump from buildings.

NO
There are way better games out there like Far Cry 3, Bioshock Infinite, Battlefield 3, and much more... Assassin's Creed is soo boring!

I too think it is the best. So many things you can do. And the story is just amazing!
