I have a console that does not have a working disc drive. The disc drive will not open when the console is fully assembled. If I take the drive apart the tray will open, but will not read the disc. I will describe the process step by step, and I hope someone has the solution to this.
1. I open the tray. The console still does not recognize that the tray is opened (the center led on the power board flashed until the console closes the tray)
2. The console closes the tray
3.The console attempts to spin the disc, but it stops spinning in about a half of a second
4.After the console stops spinning the disc, I get the dreaded "open tray" on the screen.
If anyone knows how to fix this or what the problem might be, please help me!!
*Note that the console was very dusty when I got it. I managed to clean off the mother board, but I haven't cleaned the disc drive yet.

right, i have this problem.
take it apart, as if your going to hotswap, and as the disc is about to spin, smack the magnet lightly, and get the palms of your hands and rapidly whack the side of your xbos, sounds like a troll but it seriously works.
also, get some compressed air and spray the spinner in the middle, also, unscrew the spinner and clean it out
