You can buy disk, or you can get them from Steam. If you do not know what steam is go to this link [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

This will tell you about steam and what it has to offer

Just to clarify what he says:
Most games are available on the steam store. Steam is a client/network that sells games but games produced by EA(BF3) are not available on steam and only on Origin(EA's version of Steam).
Minecraft cant be found on either of these but can be bought from minecraft.net

Correct. Steam is what almost every pc gamer uses to buy there games. Disc are always an option but there are pros and cons to each side.

Disc Pro:
No download required, just install and play.

Disc Con:
Have to order online or go to a store and pickup.

Buying Digital (through online stores where you buy the game and it downloads to your computer automatically) Pros and Cons are pretty much the opposite.

Digital Pro:
Don't have to go to a store and pickup.

Digital Con:
Downloads can take a while depending on the download size and your internet connection.

Then there are different clients. There is Steam, almost a must have for pc gamers. Ran by Valve (one of the best companies in the world). Steam has a lot of games, but not all of them.

There is the Origin client, ran by EA. I am not a big fan of EA but they produce some high quality games (usually). The have games like Battlefield, and also games of the sports genre mostly.

The last one I can think of is the Uplay Client. Ran by Ubisoft. Most of Ubisofts games are on Steam. I am not sure if there is any that are on steam or not, just do some research. Ubisoft owns games like Assassins Creed, Anno, Far Cry, but as I said before, these are purchasable on Steam as well.

If you can't find a game you would like on any of these clients, a last resort would just to go to the owners site and buy it from there. The reason us gamers use clients is because it keeps our games organized, there is a community, and DEALS. I am not sure if Origin or Uplay has deals (I am sure they do), but as all of us gamers know, the Steam Summer Sale has just ended . But Steam also has a Winter Sale. Steam puts Jaw dropping deals on pretty much every single one of its games. There are common rules (made by the community pretty much) that you would want to follow to save money.

Rules:
1. If your game is not on the Daily Deals or Flash sales or anything like that, do not buy it until the last day of the sale.

Yeah thats pretty much the only rule.

Hoped I helped! And Welcome to the PC Master Race of Gaming!
