I've got a ps3 and I wanted to start playing cod on it but when I put in my hdmi cable it's sound but no picture any help

Reset the video settings. turn of ps3 hold the power button untill you hear 3 beeps and then it turns of itself again. Now simply turn on and you should see it.
Another option is to go into recovery mode as its a lower resolution.
