I am looking into getting a dual nand xbox, i have done some research and 1. is it safe to use 1 HDD for homebrew and retail? 2. also what is the process to install a different KV to the hacked nand while leaving the retail one untouched?

1. It's not recommended at all, I've done it a few times and honestly you could just say you bought the HDD second hand and Microsoft wouldn't know any different.
2. It would be exactly the same as you would a JTAG or RGH, you CANNOT modify the KV on the retail NAND.
If you wanted to connect to LIVE though using XBLS or something you would need a new KV, by default it shares the one from the retail NAND,
