It costs too much for not enough return when using Intel. You have to spend a fair bit more on a K series processor and then buy a cooler. This can cost upwards of 50GBP, and that's the kind of money to jump from an i5 to an i7.

I mean the cooler + added cost of K series btw.

I guess so. Apparently Haswell gets horribly toasty too under OC.

I'll be getting a Haswell Xeon. i7 for sub-200 pounds? Yes please...

Here's what I plan to buy by the way, should absolutely tear games a new one: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

If you exclude OS and peripherals, you are looking at a build with a 780 and an i7 for under 1000 pounds. Pretty good deal if I ever saw one.

You don't like red and black??!? How? That case is amazing.

And yes, I was considering an 8350 but since the i7 is only that much more and does perform quite a lot better, I'll most likely be buying it.

I do like it, but it's been done alot. I specifically didn't like the colour of red on that case as i think it makes it look plastically.

If you were even considering a 8350 the 8320 is cheaper. But then again the Intel will probably take less power, if that bothers you.

I agree it looks plasticky, but I actually kind of like that. I think the glossy red looks really nice, and as long as it doesn't feel poor quality which it certainly doesn't, it should be good.

The 8320 is a lot cheaper, but is also quite a lot slower. I would save about 85 pounds but I don't know what I would spend this on.

Comes down to personal preference i guess. I was tempted to do a military build with a Sabertooth board but its a lot of stuff to change ha.

Thats why you overclock it! Its pretty much the same processor just binned lower than the 8350. Spend that 80 pounds on a biiiig cooler.

I could, but the i7 would still be more powerful unless I get one seriously good chip. I would need to overclock a lot. I would also have to spend more on a 990X/FX board (I plan on buying a cheap H87 since the Xeon is locked), so I wouldn't have that much to spend on a cooler at the end of it.
