Clones wroteLets wrote Moral and ethical reasons are also a big factor in this.Let's hope we do. I remember reading a book called, "Clone Codes" that had clone servants, and I honestly can see clones being mistreated in some parts of the world. Depending on their awareness, they could rebel, which is a startling thought.
However cloning has also done wonders in the sciences.
They have created artificial meat out of stem cells. that we can eat that doesn't harm animals. They have also cured many diseases by working on artificial tissue that was cloned.
I believe cloning is a good thing, to an extent that is. I can cure diseases by making research faster, can cure world hunger like you mentioned, and has the ability to make our species live on if a catastrophic even ever happens. However I do not think we will see cloning live humans in our life time, due to the moral and ethical reasons in our time period.
If we did end up cloning human beings. I think yes they would be mistreated. They would be seen as non-humans.
There would be religious uproars all across the world.
If we do however start, I don't believe we would be cloning random civilians it would be intelligent individuals such as Einstein, political leaders, and those who have changed the world once before and could possibly do it again.
This will never happen in our distant future I think just because of mainstream religion and their views on this touchy subject.
Great read by the way, I love this concept!

Sorry, I thought this was going to be an interesting topic, but obviously not due to the ideas you suggested:
-Could cure world hunger by cloning healthy food/crops.
What? Cloning doesn't work that way, it'd cost millions to clone food and crops, it would be better to just stop eating pigs and fill the space with chickens
-Could benefit space exploration by sending clones instead of people.
It's not like that brings up civil rights issues or anything like that, it's not like normal people want to visit space either!
-Could act as volunteers for charities, such as the Red Cross, blood donations, etc.
Maybe people could become better if more of them volunteered
-Would human clones have rights?
hurr hurr yes even embryos have rights at the moment
-Could they rebel?
yes they are people
-What if terriosts got ahold of cloning tech?
then they would spend millions and years cloning a sheep
OP you seem to have the idea that cloning is the same as star wars, no, people spend millions and years of hard work to clone a small animal to use in research... why would clones not have rights? they're still human beings, they just share the same genetic makeup as someone else, they are born like other people
0/10 thanks for making me respond i'm mad now
By the way, it wouldn't matter if you cloned an intelligent person, because the environment and chance has as much part in making them intelligent and successful. Cloning would be useful in eliminating diseases in humans and producing ideal people physically, but it isn't a sci fi kind of thing.

scientists have cloned way more than a sheep. For example, they cloned a mouse from a single drop of blood from the original mouses tail...
This is the future of science, so much useful and helpful things will come of this in the future

Cloning is such a controversial topic, merely based on ethical stances. However, we can't stand back and watch an opportunity to change the living conditions of millions fade away because we, the human race, were too scared to take the risk. There is a reason humans are the dominant species. We shouldn't let that come under threat purely over fear.
Imagine fear stopped Nicola Tesla from researching into alternating current. Or Maurice Hilleman was too scared to try out his vaccinations. Fear should be a driving force, not a limitation

Nope for real the sheep was named Dolly, it was the first animal cloned but wasn't the last.

Even somehow cloned a extinct animal, The Animal died shortly after birth yet still it makes you wonder where will we be at 10,20,30 years from now.

I think cloning is pretty amazing, as long as it doesn't get into the wrong hands, can't wait to see what we can do with it in 50 years or so

Interesting. but the downside with clones could be in the near future with technology. Since computers, cell phones, video games etc. have pretty much taken over the lives of americans. I watched a very interesting video on the development of "Robots" and i'm sure many people won't be surprised if they were made and sold to the public. thats when then the downside of things come in. if robots are sold to the public for a great amount of money. i'm sure they would be upgraded each year like video gaming consoles and cellphones. And the only way to make they better are to make them smarter than the previous copy obviously. but how far would we go? to the point where they are smarter than us? then they would eventually rebel and all hell would break loose.
wouldn't it be the same thing with clones?
