Have you tried pouring water on it to cool it off? Sometimes when I get hot I just use cold water and pour it on me.

They make fans you can buy to set your laptop on top of. It will keep it cool but it can be hard to get used to but it will keep it cooler.

Yeah my Lenovo gets really hot, so I bought a cooling pad for it and it works really well.

May be the wrong section, but I think a few on here owns a macbook.

The vents for the MBP are located in the hinge (below the screen in the center). it heats up because your laptop is using a lot of power.

You are charging it, browsing the internet, probably listening to music, and having some big applications open like Photoshop or a video game like Minecraft will cause the fan to run pushing all that hot air out... its all ok though.

Does that make sense?

That wont work... the fans are not on the bottom

My 2012 Macbook pro tended to do that as well, I didn't find anyway to actually fix it then upgrading the computer. I got a 2013 Macbook pro now, and it's an i5 16gb ram, and it's never running loud and the fans aren't blowing as fast as they used to on the 2012 one. I feel like the battery is not what's making it hot, it's actually the fans cooling off the computer, and you're probably blocking the fans so it's probably heating up quick, and it looks like your computer is running at max power, so upgrading the computers ram, specs, anything so it wont be running at 80%+ cpu at once (like mine used to do)

So yea, I may not be the best on giving computer advice, but here, I know what I'm talking about, I had the same exact issue till I got a much more powerful mac.

edit: you can try upgrading your ram, I'm sure that will do something, But the fact that it's running the fans like that (as your described) is because you're probably maxing out on cpu usage, and your computer is probably sounds like a meat grinder (as was mine if I played minecraft on the 2012 one lol)
Anyways, that's my view on browsing on chrome, having skype open, multiple messengers, and a flash game playing. The more CPU you use, the much louder the fans go to cool the computer down.

Mine does that aswell. But it wont hurt it. It was built like that so it doesnt blow up on you.
