You can use a flat head. Normally one of the bigger flat heads in those jewler sets that everyone has for some reason will fit in there.
The only problem is that often the screws are to tight to just use that small of a scree driver and it will just rip up your hand. So tape or glue a metal pen in the shape of a T on the screw driver. This has to be done very well, because it needs to withstand more torque then the screw to work.

Also look for a flat head bit that can fit. Then put it in a drill. That may be easier. If possible when putting the screws back in, turn the dial to 1 on the end of the drill. This is basically no torque and will put the screw back in without over torqueing it and breaking. the plastic or cross threading it.

If you want to open an xbox controller you can use a small starhead or a small flathead. That's what i done all the time and all of the screws are still fine.

I used a dremel to carve out the circle in the center of my controller. But other than that there not hard there not hard to find go to a home improvement store or amazon, they should have it.
