Is it safe..? System recovery wipes your whole system to factory defaults, which means it basically comes with only your OS. I wouldn't recommend doing it, unless you have a big flash drive to store important files on, unless you want to spend your whole day re-downloading everything. It is the most effective way to get rid of a serious virus though.

IT DOES NOT COMPLETELY WIPE YOUR HARD DRIVE!!!!!!!!!! Most operating systems create checkpoint whenever windows runs an automatic or manual update. Windows automatically saves checkpoints there and you should be able to do a system recovery to any past point in time where you ran a windows update! It is 100% safe and is the most affective against getting rid of viruses that disable you from getting online or opening programs etc. I have gotten a virus like that before that disables your internet and programs unless you buy a fake security system for your computer.

It does completely wipe your hard drive.. he's talking about a full system restore which requires you to even reinstall your OS. If he's talking about a back up restore, then it's just going to set everything like is was when he first got the computer, like I said. Most operating systems actually don't save checkpoints, because it's a lot of memory, so unless you did it manually you're looking at a full system restore.
