a CPU is a good performance part? (i.e if it will perform well for gaming)

If a graphics card is a good part (see above)

And if a motherboard is a good part.

I'm pretty farmiliar with other things such as memory and disk drives, but the above i don't really know much about. Please don't hate because i'm a PC building noob.

The CPU is arguably the most important part in a computer. The more cores, GHz it has, the better it is, in most cases. The CPU is definitely a performance part when it comes to gaming. Having a bad CPU will do you no good when it comes to PC gaming.

Same goes for the GPU. Again, a very important part. you'll want to have a fairly good one of these when it comes to gaming. Having a bad GPU can let your whole gaming system down.

As for the motherboard, it doesn't really matter. If you're just gaming you won't need to look into highly expensive motherboards with "all the bells and whistles". As long as it has enough RAM slots and a PCIe x16 slot you should be good to go.

Any more questions feel free to ask.

Thanks for your help so far. And is the CPUBenchmark site a good place to judge whether or not it will be a good part or is it not very reliable?

I'm not sure as I've never used CPUBenchmark. If you ever want to know if a part will be good for gaming either look up some reviews on it or PM me.

thankyou, will do. Do most reviews include a section of where the reviewer says if it's good for gaming and other things such as computer speed?

Good reviews will give you a lot of information about the part. You should watch "LinusTechTips" on youtube. He does a lot of good stuff with computers and reviews a lot of parts. "TimeToLiveCustoms" also does some good part reviews.

There are countless good PC part reviewers on youtube.
