Grand Theft Auto V is an upcoming open-world action adventure game. It is the latest entry in the Grand Theft Auto series of games, and is being developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game is set to launch worldwide on the 17th of September, 2013.

Grand Theft Auto V is set in the City of Los Santos and its surrounding hills, countryside and beaches. It is said to be the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar have yet created and, for the first time in the series, will feature three different playable characters.

As mentioned on the previous page, there are three playable characters in Grand Theft Auto V and you are able to switch between the three of them almost completely at will using a radial menu.

The exception to this is when you're in the middle of a mission or when you have a wanted level, in which case you will only switch characters as required to complete the mission in what are artially scripted instances or when you've lost your wanted level respectively.

Outside of these two exceptions you can switch at will. When you are not 'occupying' a character, he will continue to go about his daily life and when you switch into him you will be transported into whatever situation he was in prior to your switching.

When switching characters the camera will zoom out and then in again to the chosen character, 'Google Earth' style.

Each character has his own unique personality in the story, and this also plays into the gameplay. They have their own unique hobby preferences (from the screenshots released thus far, for example, Trevor seems to enjoy adrenaline-enducing acitivities like jet skiing and quad bike racing, whilst Michael probably leans more towards tennis and golf).

Each character is also rated in a series of different categories: Stamina, Shooting, Strength, Stealth, Flying, Driving, and so on.

They also have their own unique skill(s):

Michael - Bullet time-esque ability when using guns

Trevor - A frenzy mode where he deals more and takes less damage, and also a special melee attack

Franklin -A slow motion ability when driving

The RPG-esque character customisation elements that were in San Andreas do not return for Grand Theft Auto V, however you will be able to customise each character's clothing, their hair styles and potentially tattoos.

Grand Theft Auto V features a small range of melee-based weapons, which are detailed below.


Baseball Bat
Franklin is pictured wielding a wooden baseball bat in artwork released for Grand Theft Auto V, confirming its appearance in the game.

Fists
Naturally you can use your fists to punch people, as you can in all Grand Theft Auto games. It's the most ineffective 'weapon' in the list, but sometimes you just want to get down and dirty.


Golf Club
Golf is one of the recreational activities you can partake in, which means you'll be able to wield golf clubs and hopefully whack people around the head with them.

Nightstick
The Nightstick was first spotted on a police officer chasing a criminal in the first trailer for the game.

Tennis Racket
As with golf, tennis has been confirmed as one of the game's recreational activities, so it wouldn't be a surprise to find you can also utilise the racket as a weapon.

Grand Theft Auto V features a number of different pistols. These are detailed below. Additionally there are a couple of handguns not listed below that are speculated to be in the game, including a H&K.


Beretta 92
Trevor is seen using a Beretta 92 semi-automatic pistol in the screenshot on the right.

Colt M1911
Franklin is seen holding a Colt M1911 semi-automatic handgun in artwork released for the game.

Desert Eagle
The Desert Eagle has been a feature of numerous scenes in the trailers thus far released, so is guaranteed to be in the game.

Glock
A Glock is typically the first gun you get a hold of in Grand Theft Auto and one has been spotted (once again) being wielded by Franklin in early artwork released for Grand Theft Auto V. This is either an automatic (Glock 18) or semi-automatic (Glock 17) handgun.

Grand Theft Auto V features two confirmed sub-machine guns at present. These are detailed below.

Mini-Uzi
Trevor is seen using a Mini-Uzi - a fully automatic sub-machine gun - on a jet ski in a screenshot released for the game.

MP5
Trevor is again seen using an MP5 in early artwork released via Game Informer.

The shotguns confirmed to be in the game are detailed below.

Mossberg 590
The Mossberg 590 semi-automatic shotgun is a new addition to the series. It can be seen being used by Franklin in the screenshot on the right.

Grand Theft Auto V features several confirmed assault rifles. These are detailed below.

AK-47
One of the most famous weapons in the world, the AK-47 will be in Grand Theft Auto V. It was seen in the first trailer as the team set out on a heist. This particular version appears to be the Norinco Type 56 II and includes a number of modifications including sound suppressors.

CAR-15
The Colt Automatic Rifle is seen in early artwork released for the game being held by Trevor (see artwork on the right).

Tavor TAR-21
The Tavor TAR-21 was first shown in a screenshot being fired out of a helicopter (see below) and will be making its debut in the series. It's a fully automatic rifle capable of firing 900 rounds a minute.

M249 SAW
The M249 SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) was first featured in The Ballad of Gay Tony and will be returning in Grand Theft Auto V.

M4A1
The M4A1 makes its debut in Grand Theft Auto V, having been spotted in artwork for the game.

Thus far one sniper rifle has already been confirmed. Details for it, and any others revealed, are below.

Scoped Sniper Rifle
Trevor is seen holding a (seemingly fictional) scoped sniper rifle whilst sat on an ATV in artwork.

Thus far two heavy weapons are known to be in the game. Those weapons and any others that are revealed will be detailed below.

Minigun
Franklin is seen using the minigun to wreack havok in a screenshot released for the game. It's a six barrelled machine gun capable of firing up to 6,000 rounds per minute. It appears to be modelled on the M134 Minigun.


RPG
The RPG has been shown off in trailers. It is modelled on the RPG-7 and is a portable, shoulder-launched rocket launcher.

A number of different explosive weapons are found in Grand Theft Auto V. Those thus far confirmed are detailed below.

C-4
C-4 (Composition C-4) is a well known plastic explosive and has been spotted in trailers for the game (see screengrab on the right).

Gas Canister
In Grand Theft Auto V you will be able to pick up and drop gas canisters to place them where you wish to cause an explosions. You can also douse items in gasoline and set them on fire.

Grenades
Grenades have long been a staple of the Grand Theft Auto series and they are in the game.

Molotov Cocktail
The trusty molotov cocktail has also made the cut.[/color]

A number of weapons found in the game are mounted to vehicles and cannot otherwise be used. The vehicles which include such weapons are listed below.

Attack Helicopter
The attack helicopter contains two rocket pods on the outside, and two miniguns on the inside.

Fighter Jet
The currently unnamed fighter jet has featured in several trailer and clearly has missiles externally attached. here also appears to be an internally-mounted gun.
