Today I have been looking up internet speed for Different countries, and by far australia is amoung the slowest, Others get 5-50+ mbs while australia is stuck on 100-600kbs. I was wandering why australia lacks behind so far in internet speed When it is quite a rich country.

My only guess would be that maybe the Companies don't want to try and expand it or something, perhaps money issues (as usually the cause) but perhaps could be based on the population or areas you're living in

I guess aus has only 21 Million people which isn't much, But I guess it would make sense to install high speed internet in areas like Sydney

Yeah places like Sydney would make sense because the pop. and 21 Million really isn't a lot for a country since the state Im in is nearing double of that and it's not nearly the size. =/

It was getting upgraded but I don't know if Tony Abbott will continue supporting it.

Hey man our internet is getting upgraded now but its very unknown what type of internet we will get before tony got in we were going to get FiberToTheHome and that means we will get fast fibre to the house meaning 100mbps/40mbps speeds (can be upgraded to higher) now that option is expensive but the best way to do it

but tony wants to do it the fast and easy/cheap he is wanting to do FiberToTheNode and that is where fibre goes into a node in the street and instead of fibre going into the house we will still have the crappy copper and we would only see speeds of 25mbps/5mbps and if you want FTTH it will cost you 3k :/

Internet in England isn't great, I'm meant to get 20MB and struggle to get 10 :L
But BT(provides all the copper lines for everyone in England's WI-FI) plan to have all the copper replaced with fiber by 2015
