Its the same for all games but for example if its MW2..
Make sure that you're on the correct TU for the patch you're using. For example if its a patch_mp.ff its probably TU6, dll_load.dll's are TU7 and above.

If it just loads the game then you probably have the wrong TU if your game crashes and sends you to the dash then you probably have a bad patch. I recommend that you check the TU that you are on and upgrade/downgrade to the one that the patch was made for. (tu6 and below are patch_mp.ff files and tu7 and up are .dll files)

any patch works as long as your on the same TU as your retail (if your doing system link recoveries.) so TU8 Just google it.

Ok so if you're linking to your retail its going to have to be a TU8 patch. Just google a patch that you want. So lets say you want a xp patch just google Mw2 TU8 xp lobby patch and download a dll_load.dll. If the dll has a different name you will need the deafult_mp.xex that comes with it

Try using a different default_mp.xex, see if any of the patches you downloaded have a read me file, you should be able to find the link to it's default_mp.xex.
