Ok well I was on my pc and my dad called me to look outside and I saw a star with a big circle around it and it was moving fairly fast, it then went behind the cloud and disappeared. The only thing I found is this: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
It looked almost exactly like that just a thicker, blurrier outer ring, and it was all white with a slight blue tint. Can anyone comment on this finding?

It's probably just some space phenomenon(if you want to call it). Like solar eclipses and such. If it was life threatening it would be all over the news like the Russian meteor.
Seems like a cool site though.

It sounds odd, but my guess is that you witnessed a supernova? Too bad you did not have a video or picture! Hogni is probably right!

There are some problems with that. Circumpolar stars only make visible circles if you create a time-lapse of the night sky. They are just the stars that are located over the North and South Pole that never go below the horizon (which make them go in a circle over time.) Also, shooting stars aren't stars. They are meteoroids coming into the Earth's atmosphere. I just don't see where either would make a star appear to move with a blurry circle around it. That type of phenomena or whatever it may be sounds interesting though. Would love to see that.

A supernova happens when a star blows up and the only thing you would see IF YOU EVER WITNESSED ONE WITHOUT DYING is an explosion and the gamma rays shooting in opposite directions but it wouldn't be this plain either it's just a blue spherical shape and supernovas tend to be many colors and extremely bright due to all of the energy and elements on the star.
