1. Keep dash boarding and reloading the game backup.
2. Delete the update and re-download it.
That's the only methods that have worked for me when I've lost my character.
Its just not being able to connect to the cloud servers, so have patience.
NOTE: DO NOT RE-SAVE YOUR NEW CHARACTER ON THE SAME SLOT AS YOUR MAIN IF YOU WANT THE CHANCE OF GETTING IT BACK.
This method is around 70% chance of working. I cannot guarantee it will work straight away, try doing it a few times or wait till tomorrow.
