Whilst most apple products are made with quality I do not think it is right to say they are "priced accordingly" as you pay extortionate amounts for Apple products. You are paying for the Mac OSX operating system, which by the way was based on linux, so you cannot say that was made with quality.
You're confusing Linux with UNIX. Macs are made for people who can afford them. You're not only paying for the operating system, which by the way introduced the modern desktop environment to the general public before Microsoft proceeded to copy, and then it turned out that Apple stole from IBM, but that's another story in itself. You're paying for the ridiculous warranties, unmatched customer support, simplicity, lightness, thinness, ultra high resolution displays (which Apple also made the push for before any other laptop manufacturer), guaranteed optimization with hardware, no bloatware preinstalled, few viruses, elegance, and did I mention the operating system?
I LOVE Mac OSX I use macs at school and they are great for just text documenting, and I understand that it is great for the rich and the people who care about brand. But I just disagree with how much they charge(partly jealousy). If they charged less and made Mac's more readily available then they could do what google are trying to do and 'take control' of the laptop market and have everyone buying there laptops, like everyone does with their phones(incl me)
I also jumped the gun a bit and shouldn't have marked your post as un-useful as it is in fact more useful that any of mine and is 100% relevant to the topic.

Google's only fitting a niche and saving people money. They're aiming towards web browsers only, not trying to control the market. Apple is in place to be a special product. If it were cheap enough for everyone to own one, where would the purpose be? What reason would they have to innovate?
EDIT- that's alright. I forgive you 5ever

Google are doing more than just web browsers, I read a post by someone online that explained google are only creating things now to create competition in the market to make all other "providers" step there game up and give us products/services where price:performance is 1:1.

If they charged less for Macs, practically no high-end PC laptops would sell. As it is, people almost always buy Macs when they spend a lot on their PC.
The OSX kernel, XNU, borrows a lot from FreeBSD (XNU = X is Not Unix, food for thought) and the graphical part of the OS is nearly all original. It's not as similar as people think and it's referred to as a "Unix-like" OS.
You'll be surprised when you try to find better alternatives to Apple products. They're priced fairly with the competition.

Sorry if the link doesn't work. If you are doing music primarily with your laptop, before you dump a bunch of money into your laptop, you need to figure out what software platform you are going to use. Pro-Tools, Cubase, Sonar whatever you go with, go with the manufacturer that offers the most choices with hardware. Closed systems severely limit your choices regardless of who builds the box. Macbooks are relatively great machines. They made not be for everyone, but oh boy; Apple sure does know how to construct high quality products filled with simplicity and elegance. Even though my Macbook Air original launch date finally grasped it's last breath of air, it went through the hardship of over 5 years. It was a great laptop. Anyways, I would recommend the Air over the Pro for one reason, ultra-portability. The Macbook air boasts an impressive battery, light as paper, bright and rich colored screen (Regardless that it lacks Retina display). I would honestly do anything to have a Mac again. The newest recent Windows laptop I got that is only five months old had the processor go out on it and the display started to flicker. After numerous hours of being on hold, I finally got a packaged box to get the box to ship it to Lenovo. It took three weeks to have it rmaed. Now compare it to Mac support, I was greeted with a nice and polite woman that replaced my Macbook Air's battery within minutes. I'll say this forever, Windows laptops will never have the grade A quality as Macs, regardless of which manufacturer it is. Once you go Mac, you never go back.

Refurbished 13 inch Retina.
Awesome price for, in my opinion, the best laptop. Hugely portable, super quick SSD, amazing display (I don't know of any windows laptops with a retina display at that price).
BUT, if you're going to be making music on garageband then just stop now.

The huge factor of non-updatability is a huge killer for me. Heck, even the 21.5" iMacs have soldered ram on the board now. But I guess it's somewhat of a necessity to do this in order to decrease the size of a machine.

If you're looking for a good laptop I really don't recommend buying a mac..
For the price of one of those you can buy a lot better laptop!
Try Alienware if you can afford it

I think it's bad really - it wouldn't make a difference. I don't really care about thin ness. I would rather have something I can replace at a lower cost and have a little extra thickness (not much though because it's only as thin as the thickest part of the iMac which is similar size to the old model where you could replace HDD etc).
