If you manage to pick up a special weapon, it only stays for that session. I lost a nice .50 pistol

I dropped my friend a hammer a week back and he still has it.

If you pick up a weapon that you don't have unlocked (So if you don't have the CE you won't have the hammer unlocked) it stays with you while your in that sesh then once you leave you won't keep it
