Do you mean using your computer or hosting it on a hosting domain? If you would like to host it on your computer, then that's not recommended because of how easy it would be to take down the site. Just go to GoDaddy or whatever looks good to you.

If you get free hosting, that does not mean people will ddos you... I have a site and theres protection for that

In theory, you can. You'd still have to purchase storage space, which you can sometimes obtain from your ISP.

The reality of it is, it's quite unlikely to host your own site. To do so, you'd have to run/own a server yourself.

Hmm wtf? You do realize to host your own server you only have to open a port and forward your domain accordingly (and have Apache running). The only impracticality of it is that your computer would have to be running 24/7 for the site to be up all the time. I don't know where you got the idea that you'd have to 'buy storage space from your ISP'

Anyways, if you want to host your own server and don't want to use Apache you could:

1. Obtain a copy of windows server 2008 or previous version or have windows professional or ultimate installed I believe.
2. then you can use a program called IIS 7, somewhat confusing and took me some time to learn. (a couple days).
3. When you turn on your website from IIS 7 the URL address would be your IP address. If you didn't want to use your IP address and you wanted to link it to a domain (ex: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] then you could buy a domain off of godaddy, etc. For this method of hosting to work you need to have your computer on 24/7.
