In an image which will cause widespread outrage, two serving British soldiers appear to give Nazi-style salutes while standing to attention in front of the Union Flag.

Apparently taken at an Army base in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, the photograph will provoke international disgust as Remembrance Day approaches.

Last night the Ministry of Defence told The Mail on Sunday that both soldiers have been investigated by Army chiefs. A spokesman said: The two people doing the salute in the photo have been spoken to.

There is such a thing as a Red Hand of Ulster salute, but the salute they're doing is definitely Nazi. Their hand is straight whereas the Ulster one has the hand tilted upward with the palm facing outwards. These soldiers should have more respect for themselves and for other soldiers who have died serving their country.

Edit: Looking at it more closely the soldier on the right looks like he is doing a Red Hand salute.

What an absolute moron, if it is a Red Hand Salute then that makes every difference.
'We're going to punish you for performing a salute that looks similar to another salute.'

If they were performing a Nazi salute, it was probably a joke.
Not a very funny one, but I think we blow things out of proportion and like to get angry about anything.
At the end of the day they're still the ones in Uniform putting their lives on the line.
To demonize them over this would be stupid.

More than 100,000 of People (both Soldiers and People of all Ethics) died in Bosnia - Serbia Genocide (Serbia attacking Bosnia) and I don't see people having a contraverse over it. We are all people we just need to come together and forget the mistakes one/few people made in the world out of Billions!

With all due respect, the mistakes made by Hitler and Stalin resulted in the deaths of over 60 million people.
That's more than the population of England.
Not to mention the Mao Ze-Dong genocide which resulted in the deaths of 78 million people in China alone.
While all genocides should never be forgotten, you can't blame people for paying more attention to the ones that resulted in completely unimaginable loss of life.
