Gaming/Recording is a lot easier/better on Desktops over Laptops, of course this depends on the specs of each, but in general the Desktops come out on top in that department.
For gaming the main hardware components you will need are:
CPU
RAM
Video Card
Heatsink (Optional but advised)
For Making Graphics & Editing, Both Laptops & Desktops will be able to easily cope with this.
And finally for a lot of memory as you said above, both can fall into this category, Desktops usually have more than laptops, 2TBs etc, however top end laptops may also have this storage space.
I do all of the above that you have mentioned on a laptop and have no problems, however I still agree that desktops are better for this purpose.
You can make sure that your chosen device is capable to run the game by checking out the minimum requirements of the game.
