For the people that don't know what Lucid Dreaming is
A lucid dream is a dream in which you know you are dreaming. Typically this happens when the dreamer experiences something strange, and when they stop to question their reality, they realize they are in a dream. Lucid dreams happen naturally on occasion, although some people may have them naturally more often than others. The definition of lucid dreaming may be simple, but there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding it.
Misconceptions
The definition of lucid dreaming may be simple, but just like many other things which are relatively unknown by the public, there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding it.
A dream isn't lucid unless you control it
There is some confusion about the difference between lucidity and dream control. The two are related, but one can happen without the other. For example, many lucid dreamers experience little or no control in some dreams. On the other hand, it is possible to exercise some dream control without being aware that it is a dream. Typically the dream plot will explain this by making the dreamer believe that they have some sort of god-like power over everything. Dream control, by our definition, can be either conscious or unconscious.
Lucid dreaming is new age
Because almost everyone has lucid dreams naturally every once in a while, we know that lucid dreaming is not limited by any one viewpoint. There are historical records which speak of lucid dreaming going back thousands of years--so it is hardly a new phenomenon. There is no need to have any spiritual beliefs to enjoy lucid dreams.
Lucid dreaming advocates escapism
Lucid dreaming occurs while you are sleeping; it is not meant at all to infringe upon your involvement in the real world. While many lucid dreamers enjoy writing down their dreams, talking about their dreams, and planning fun lucid dreams, this is generally no different from any other hobby. In fact, playing a video game or watching a movie will take you out of the real world more than lucid dreaming will.
Lucid dreaming is unnatural, involves "dark arts," or is occult related
Many religious or spiritual sects lump lucid dreaming in with occult practices and activities. Lucid dreams often occur naturally and there is nothing occult about them. On the contrary, many great religious epiphanies and messages came in the form of dreams; sometimes lucid dreams. Our dreams are what we make them; whether we wish to give them spiritual significance or not is up to us.
Dreams contain messages that are lost with lucid dreaming
As of this writing, there are many theories about why dreams exist and what purpose they serve, but so far none of these theories has been proven. One theory is that our dreams contain important or useful messages about our lives. Considering that many people do not even remember their dreams, let alone pay them any attention, changing the dream plot in a fraction of one's dreams is in comparison not nearly as problematic for any message-sending done through dreams. Lucid dreaming also requires very good dream recall, so even if a fraction of these messages are lost in lucid dreams, you are likely remembering many more regular dreams than you ever did before, and on top of that, giving them more attention than ever. Lastly, if we consider that it is our mind that gives us the message through dreams, even if lucid, there is high chances that the message will show regardless.
Levels of Lucidity & Dream Control
Lucid dreaming was defined as becoming aware you are dreaming; the actual level of awareness varies, however. When the level of lucidity is high you are well aware that nothing you experience is real, and you realize that you have nothing to fearyou cannot be harmed by any situations that may seem precarious. With low-level lucidity, although partially aware you are dreaming, you are not aware enough to have a great impact on your dreamyou may accept some aspects of your dream that you would not normally accept in the ordinary world (you may not find it at all strange that your dog flies around the living room, etc.) With low-level lucidity your realization may also quickly fade and you may accept the whole dream as reality.

A lot of people say I dont dream, everybody dreams, whilst you may not remember them you still dream. To start remembering your dreams try this simple technique.
Each night before drifting off to sleep repeat the phrase I will remember my dreams as soon as I wake up. Say this phrase over and over until you fall asleep, after a few days you will start to remember your ordinary dreams.
2. Keep a dream journal
This can be tedious but its well worth the effort. Even writing a few short sentences about your dream is enough. This will get you into the habit of remembering your ordinary dreams and to start looking for dream signs within your dreams. It can also be a tool to analyze your thought processes.
3. Pick out dream signs
A lot of your ordinary dreams will have objects or people in them that could act as a cue to you waking up in your dreams. For example if you regularly talk to Elvis in your ordinary dreams this is an obvious dream sign and can be used to ask yourself if you are dreaming because you know Elvis is dead.
4. Notice your waking world
To be conscious in your dream world means you have to be conscious in your waking world. That might sound crazy, as you are conscious when you are awake. However what I mean is consciously focused . For example you are consciously focused when learning a new task, you are thinking about every action you are taking to get the right steps. When you have learned the new task you no longer have to focus as intently as you did when learning it. Being consciously focused means looking around you and saying what you see, feel, hear, smell and touch and voicing it. This has the added benefit of being in the moment and can help you to inner calmness, its almost zen like.
If you start to consciously focus on the world around you, you will carry this over into the dream world.
5. Ask yourself; Am I dreaming?
Ask yourself just now Am I dreaming?. Your obvious answer is to say no, of course you are not dreaming. How do you know? Dont just say; because I know, try and think about why you are not dreaming. For example you could say if I was dreaming I would be able to fly. When you are dreaming you cannot read text for longer than a few seconds, so try reading text to prove to yourself you are not dreaming.
This again will carry over into your dreaming world and you will start asking the same questions in your dreams which can turn into a lucid dream.
6. Your first lucid dream
Many people have their first lucid dream simply by reading about it. You might find that you become over-excited and lose the lucid dream however, you first lucid dream will be remembered for years to come.

I've read that the easiest way to lucid dream is to lay in bed facing up and try your hardest not to fall asleep (think about things). You should get to a state where you'll fall asleep because you can't hold on any longer, but you'll still be conscious despite being asleep, from this state you can being to create your own dreams.

Well i have just started on my trek to lucid dreaming. All you really need to do is create dream signs you do during the day frequently so you subconsciously place them in your dreams and realize your asleep. I also think keeping a journal is a must, or at least writing down answers on your computer. It helps you remember and collect information that helps you realize your dreaming. I just started last weekend, but i already have had two lucid dream experiences were i knew i was asleep. The two ways i caught those dreams where obvious to me because i was flying. Usually when i was dreaming i didn't know that i was awake even was doing stuff like flying, but i nailed it into my mind when i was awake that only happens in dreams. I actually started flying by jumping and i would float away not coming down.

This doesn't really have anything to do with lucid dreaming, but when I dream, it all seems to make sense when I am sleeping, but when I wake up and think about what I just drempt, it all makes no sense what so ever.
I have never had an experience of Lucid Dreaming, but It does sound like a cool thing to try.

I think for it to really be effective you need to follow those steps, with the journal etc. I tried to do it once, but I always get RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome) and it makes it near impossible for me to keep still. I feel physically ill if I don't move.

I tried this a couple of months ago, after about a week I stopped doing the dream journals as I noticed all dreams I had recorded involved me being in creepy/near death experience and I also vividly remember some strange "scenes" with detail. For example I remember one of the dreams I recorded ended with me escaping from a weird place with 3 other people, we were in a car presumably going home and one of them out of nowhere poured petrol all over the inside of the car and lit it. Me and one other person survived and I vividly remember seeing one of the bodies' face extremely burned and with a brake pad through his face.
Although after reading this I might try again. Last time I tried was during the summer and I got those results, now it's during school and I'm under a lot of pressure with very important exams coming up soon. I wonder what sort of **** up things I'll see now.
