I was wondering how to go from 32-bit to 64-bit without having to have more than one hhd. If its not possible what would be the best ssd for just having this os on it. Thanks for you help.

No. If you are currently running a 32bit Windows 8, you can only perform an upgrade to another 32bit Windows 8.
It's the same with 64bit. If you are running a 64bit version of Windows 8, you can only perform an upgrade to another 64bit version of Windows 8.
