I'm only 14 (i'll be 15 in july)and the liscence I can get is a restrictive permit/liscense and this is what i'll be able to ride if I get my permit/liscense atm
The Alabama DPS recognizes two classes of engine-equipped cyclesmotor-driven cycles and motorcycles. Youll need to make sure you understand the difference, as some of the requirements for proper licensing and registration are bike-based.
A motor-driven cycle is defined as any motorcycle or motor scooter that has:
A motor that produces no more than five brake horsepower (hp).
An engine size of 150 cubic centimeters (cc) or less.
A weight of less than 200 pounds when fully equipped.
What would this mean if I were to get a bike?

Polluted wrote Hey I want to start riding ones instead of a car but I don't know where to start? Any help would be grateful.
I'm thinking on getting a 09 Ninja 250r as my first bike.
I would suggest since you have 1 1/2 yrs to wait....you read and learn the motorcyle manual for your area. Get in good with your local dealer and go to the dealers and sit on the bikes(if allowed) learn the location of the controls with your eyes closed. That could probably save your life in a panic situation. Riding a bike is a world of difference from a regular bike....things can happen in a instant. When you are ready to purchase DO NOT BUY NEW.....Check out the used bikes on craiglist or local papers and even ask the dealers. The reason not to buy new is you will drop it and then you have a not so new bike with payments. Sorry for the long post.... but I have taught others to ride and I have been riding myself for a number of years.
The Ninja 250 is an excellent starter bike as is the Honda Rebel (250 cruiser)!!

That would not cover the Ninja nor the Rebel......that maybe for the 80cc to 150cc mopeds (but even some of those make more than 5hp....I'm in Ga and we have only 2 rules motorcycles and 3 wheels atvs.
