You can root and use Exposed Framework or flash a custom ROM.

Depends on the type of brick. Chances of bricking it are ~0% if you can read and follow instructions. You can recover from a soft brick, but rarely can you recover from a hard brick.

well i mean couldnt u just reset the phone back to factory defaults?... and sorry for all the questions this is my 1st andriod phone.

No, not necessarily. But kind of. It's rather hard to explain and I'd rather leave it up to the people who actually possess your device, so I will. Rooting is very easy most phones have a script you run from your PC that will do everything for you. Just search for your device on XDA.
