Try connecting them straight to each other with an ethernet cord.

If I connect them with a Ethernet cord I wont be able to give myself prestiges without being signed into xbox live?:/

Just try it, if it works then it is a router/modem problem.

Yeah do what chaos said if that doesn't work try to unplug your router for like 10 seconds who knows might work

Make your Jtag or RGH wired straight in to your Router and have the Retail xbox to do the same. Make them both wired in to your router then you can connect to xbox live and still have the system link option available. Thats what i did

This way even if you dont have any internet they will always be able to connect. This is also the most efficient way to system link and the fastest. Might speed up your Xbox Live connection too
