Step 1:
Before you even start developing, you need to figure some stuff out. You need to come up with a flowing storyline and talk to some local gamers and ask if they would play it. Dont take a few no's too hard because everyone has different taste. Even if you get more no's then yes's do what you think will make the best game your able. Different Game Engines are better for certain games. If your looking to make a 2D game go to [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] That is the best (free) 2d Game Making Software. That is the same software i started on. I got over 100k plays on my first month my game was released onto the site. I was astonished at how easy game making actually was.
Step 2:
Come up with characters that everyone can relate too. Everyone loves a good game where they fell they actually know the character. Such as the new game COD Ghosts,
-Spoiler Alert-
If you watch after you finish the campaign and after some of the credits, the bad guy -forgot his name-, drags you off. Not only does this set up for a second game, but you feel sad as if this really happened and you may never see him again.
Step 3:
Start developing. If you dont like any of the tools i listed there are hundreds, maybe thousands, and every single one is different. If you run out of ideas, you can always post in this topic and ask for help and ideas. Or you can even check out my site when i get it up. It will be dedicated to video game making guides and tutorials.
Step 4:
Find some Video Game Testers willing to test you new product. Take anything they say into consideration, other than changing the story, and ask them to look for any and all bugs that are in your product. If you cant find any testers, offer them getting the finished product free, or once again post in this topic that your looking for Beta Testers.
Step 5:
Rehash and Redesign. Now is the time to go back and fix any mistakes that you Testers discovered. This could take anywhere from on hour to one month. I remember my first 3D game took me 5 months to make. My rehash was 2 weeks and my redesign was 3. Remember to take your time and not to rush!
Step 6:
Release your game as a beta, and ask you first few players to keep you updated with any new glitches or bugs in your system. After about a month, talk to all of them and find out what they discovered and how they liked your game.
Step 7:
Some of the Game Software allows the creation of multiplayer gameplay. If so, design some maps and games that people can play together, maybe even a co-op campaign.
Remember, making a video game takes a lot of time and dedication. Dont expect to make it in one night after you get home from work, because trust me, its not that easy.
Feel free to post download links and more in the comments, also feel free to ask questions! Thanks!
