I saw some guys post a few topics down asking if we only use 20% of our brain. Do you guys think that if that's true, and if we were able to use the rest of it, we could move stuff or little things like shut the lights off. Kind of weird to think about what we are actually capable of

well most things wouldnt make sense. like turning off the lights.. if we had the ability to do that it wouldnt make sense that our part of our brain we dont use is capable of turning something off that really never existed until we made it. unless there is a direct connection to it then it would be different.

our brain is set to do things since the beggining of time and the light bulb didnt exist back then.

The movie Limitless kind of puts this into perspective.

We use all of our brain. We don't know WHAT it all does, but we know that it all counts.

If you want an answer to your question instead of additions to it, then first might I suggest asking someone who is actually intelligent. But my annoyance in people's inability to even do so much as propose a hypothetical theory aside, I'll answer your question. There is no actual limit to what a human mind can do. Now, even though I say that, I will now contradict myself by saying the human mind is actually forced to limit itself, as if in the situation where a person somehow becomes able to consciously control their brain-(both the conscious and subconscious subroutines that our brains adhere to)-he/she would die shortly after, from a wide number of reasons, such as; inability to control subconscious bodily functions like respiration or circulation of blood. The things our bodies do for us subconsciously would inevitably be our downfall, since we have no way of controlling them. On the other hand, the brain also limits what we can do consciously, such as moving, talking, rational thought, and basically everything you would do in your daily life. Put it this way: The average person can lift 80% of his/her own weight. Now say this is possible when 5% of the brain is devoted to lifting said object, and finally, say we have a man weighing 180 lbs as our example. If that man were to devote 25% of his brain towards lifting an object, that man could lift a hefty 720 lbs. Now take that same formula, but activate 100% of his brain, and that man would be throwing a blue whale like a Frisbee. Now, while that would be amazing, the man would then die horrendously from a multitude of reasons, the most notable being the fact that his entire body would basically unravel itself as tendons, muscles, and arteries would tear, bones and cartilage would shatter, further shredding his already disintegrating body. If he somehow survives that, he would have literally EATEN HIMSELF TO DEATH! I could give you the formula, but it's easier to just let you imagine just how many calories he must have burned throwing that whale. The answer is he would have burned an excess of over 50,000,000,000 calories, which not only would he actually eat himself completely, but the heat of each calorie burning would not only incinerate him, but the nearest three states in radius of his. That's right. Humans have the potential to be a living megaton nuke. So just remember that it's a good thing to be limited, and that you should stop raising the percentile of brain you're using in asking these questions.

Limitless does put it into perspective. We only use one side of our brain. If one person was able to use both sides, everything they learn, will be remembered. They will be able to remember things they learned in 1st or 2nd grade.

if it is true then its kinda of dumb, that we found out about it, but don't try to discover how to tap into the percent we don't use

People with Autism use more than 20 percent. Well in some cases not all but some say thats the reason they have that birth defect is because they use more the 20.
