Not sure if anyone figured this out yet.
So my dog pulled the soft part off of my headset, headset still functions perfectly fine.
I chatted with xbox support, seeing if I could get a replacement for the spongey cover, but they told me all they can do is just replace it.

Went through the replacement form, replacement is free, and I do not need to send in my current headset. So I'll have my current one, that works perfectly, and the brand new one they'll be sending me.

Just a nice way to not spend extra money on an extra headset I guess.

The Xbox one mic doesn't come with a sponge, so how does that work?
