Yes, and that goes with any other weapon class, if you want to get more guns in let's say for example the PDWs you would need to use to them.

this aspect of the game has completely changed since battlefield 3, yes, you now have to use the weapon class (pdws, snipers, dmrs, assault rifles etc) in order to unlock more weapons in that weapon class. Now, all you unlock through class leveling (recon, support, medic, engineer) is the "perks" and the gadgets.

Yes you do. If you want to rank up snipers you need to use them. Same applies to all other weapon categories. You can however use any attachment for them and XP boosts count toward weapon stats so you can use that if you're having a hard time.

I unlocked all snipers in about an hour during the double XP we had earlier this month.
