Its like that because its next generation
the Kinect should be on full times, the power should go through the
console to power the kinect that way you can tell the xbox to go on
thats why it was hot.

Change the settings to "Power Saving Mode". This way when you turn it off, after like 10 seconds it will turn orange meaning it's off.

Just hold the button on the front of the console for 5-6 seconds and it will shut down completely.
EDIT*
The power brick will have an orange light instead of a white one when shut down completely

Its a option in power saving mode u can turn it on or off if its on then u can turn your xbox on by using your voice n saying xbox on this feature lets ur xbox stay on 24/7 with very little power just enough to power to kinect it also downloads game updates and etc without the system actually being 100% on or u can turn it off in power saving mode thats what i did BTW its not good for ur xbox just to unplug the power cable like that if u dont want it to be on all the time just disable it in power saving mode every xbox one comes with this option turned on by default but u can always turn it off and on if u like
