It works with the downloaded version. I did it. There's a way to do it don't give up. it worked like a charm for me. I'm on a first gen xbox though.

Did you try the method I posted?

I know you might have done this but try it again.

Set the dns back to automatic.

Then delete the gta update.

Then clear the cache on EVERY storage device on the console.

Then turn the xbox off.

Now wait 5 seconds and turn it back on.

Then start up gta.

Go straight to story mode.

Once in story start an invite only session.

This will set your dns to stock and will make it so that you can play like regular.

That may not be the dns. Some peoples gamertags have timout problems..

Question: I used to be able to play Grand Theft Auto Online without any issues, but then one time I got an error saying "Timed out locating session" when joining a game. Now I can't get into GTA Online at all because every time I try to go online at all, it says "Timed out locating session" again. Help!

In some cases, players have reported being able to get online using other platform accounts on the same console, ruling out connection issues.
