Frog wrote I've heard a lot of speculation as to whether Ribery will win it, and although the rumor is that he stands a good chance, I really can't see it. Compared to Messi and Ronaldo, he' never going to win it, they're just a step up from Ribery, although he is one of the best in the world of course...
If Ribery wins it, the competition will of change from the best individual player, to the most successful player, which is not what its about.

Ronaldo does deserve it for obvious reasons but lets not forget Ribery won the triple with Bayern last year.
Ronaldo has just been in a league of his own.

G_Man wroteBrad- wrote Ribery is nowhere near the level of Ronaldo. Nowhere near.
This season in the league, Ronaldo has scored 18 goals, compared to Ribery's 6 goals. 3 times as many goals as Ribery. Not to mention that La Liga is a considerably harder league than the Bundesliga.
In the champions league, both players have played 5 matches, Ribery has scored 3 without an assist and Ronaldo has had 9 goals and 2 assists, again 3 times as many goals as Ribery.
Nowhere near.
Ribery is a world class player, and although Ronaldo is on another level, it's a tad hasty to say he's nowhere near the level that Ronaldo is. It's not all about goals and assists. That being said Ribery doesn't deserve to win this year, it should be Ronaldo.
The thing about the Ballon d'or is that it's not necessarily the best individual player who wins it, and certainly at times the most deserving player doesn't win it. In some years certainly the best individual player wins it, but the criteria seems to change every other year. People are saying Ribery deserves it this season due to his contribution to Bayern's success. Trophy hauls and team success has came into play before in previous years over individual performance. In all honesty it's a fair defence in the case of Ribery winning it but it then discredits the award for individual play, and in this year there are a lot more deserving than Ribery in that category.
In all honesty most Fifa awards are a farce and are biased, my case in point being the World XI, you just need to look at some of the nominees for this years team to see why, and also past players who have been included.
It's all a popularity contest and it's a joke. If Ronaldo doesn't win this year, then my point is proven, although it's still valid nonetheless.
I couldn't of put it any better mate! I'm a Messi fan through and through but as much as it pains me to say it Ronaldo has easily been the best player this year. that being said, Ronaldo has been fully fit for all the season excluding a short period of time at the beginning of December, where as Messi has been rather unlucky with injuries through out the year, and that its self just shows what a special player he is to not be fully fit for nearly the whole year, and still be second favorite to win it.
All 3 are just out of this world but it should be Ronaldo taking it. But like you said its run by FIFA so the most deserved still might not win it unfortunately.
