SO guys, I got a few questions about a motherboard.
When I change out my motherboard will I have to reinstall windows?
And is this mobo good for overclocking? [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

You will be able to overclock on that motherboard. What CPU do you have?

Yes, you'll have to re-install windows since windows ties itself with the motherboard. You don't have to purchase it again however.

Yes, you'll have to re-install windows since windows ties itself with the motherboard. You don't have to purchase it again however.

I have the i7-3770K
And if I have to reinstall it would I loose everything?
I've never had to reinstall windows so I don't know :I

That motherboard should be fine. Make sure you have a good CPU cooler though.

When you reinstall Windows you have to format the drive it as installed on; the C drive. If you have anything other than Windows on the C drive you'll lose it.

My C drive is just my SSD, I'm not actually sure of everything I have on it, so I should be fine I guess.

You'll want to get rid of all your motherboard drives in Device Manager.

See Workaround for how to open a Device Manager with all hidden devices shown. Then uninstall EVERYTHING so there are no conflicts with the new board.

Changing the board will invalidate your Windows 7 activation key because it is tied to the board upon installation. The install itself will be completely fine.

I've found this to be the most effective procedure when installing new hardware. I've done it twice and encountered no problems.
