So my M100 came in the mail today. Just plugged it into my amp because I'd never heard it with enough power driving it, and damn...I totally could have been able to live with this being my only headphone if I was never exposed to better.

The actual "Monster" brand are better. THey both may be branded and made by "monster" but beats are garbage. My N-ergy over the headphones are so much more clear, and the best part, THEY DON'T TAKE TRIPLE A batteries

If paying retail, I wouldn't. What's your budget and preferences? Though the new Studios are better to my ears than what Monster has out.

I'm having problems with Beyerdynamic at the moment. My Custom One Pros have just died (major rattling in the left ear with lower end mid range and bass at higher volumes (comfortably high, not over high - about as loud as a Sony Xperia Z1 gets which isn't as loud as an iPhone).

I've sent Beyerdynamic an email and they said contact the seller. I have done so, but the seller has told me it's down to beyerdynamic, but even on their website it states that I need to take it back to the seller. I haven't heard back from the seller for a week now - what should I do? I'm without headphones and that's no good as I use them for my Music Technology course I'm doing at college.

I've been looking at other headphones to get, some more portable ones.

HD 25-1 II
AKG 545
ATH M50
ATH Pro700 MK2
Sennheiser Momentum over ear
V-Moda M100
B&W P5

To give you an idea of what I want, I'm looking for portability and comfort.

I REALLY like the sound of the momentums and the P5s, but have been told that the AKG 545 can offer a similar sound.

Being a bass fan, I would lean towards a slightly bassier sound, but the Momentums are considered to be a more neutral sound, I thought.

I listen to a wide variety of music, including Nile Rodgers, Chic, Daft Punk, Phil Collins, Kaskade, Deadmau5, (house music), Electronic, Disclosure but other stuff like BBC Radio 1 live lounge stuff - easy listening music. I also have a small selection of opera and classical music. Strange I know, but I listen to different music depending on my mood.

I don't mind if they're on ear, but they're going to need to live up to the comfort of the Bose OE (1) - I don't want them to feel cheap. If they're over ear, they're likely to fit better any way.

Comfort is a big priority.

Budget - around 230 GBP. Anything costing more I'd consider looking at second hand. Few things on HeadFi I have seen.

EDIT: I had a pair of MDR-1R but I gave them to my father because my ears were touching the driver and it was very uncomfortable for me.

More things that might help:

I find my current Custom One Pros to be quite harsh in the high end, and although very clear they sound aggressive, as I do the MDR 1R. The Momentums sound very clear but soft. That's the sound I'm going for.

Beyerdynamic should fix them. You've had them for less than the warranty right? That's a really unfortunate problem; very unlike Beyerdynamic quality, though the Custom One Pro is a relatively new concept for them. Have you checked for a hair stuck in the drivers? That's a common problem. I even had it with the DT880 that I had for a month.

First I'll help narrow down choices. The HD25 is not comfortable at all, the M50 is a downgrade from what you have, I haven't heard the Pro700, but I've read they're comparable to the M50, which would probably be another downgrade. The M100 is bassy, but not necessarily comfortable (though I haven't tried the XL pads). The lack of comfort is tempting me to sell mine, even though I just got it last Saturday. They're not nearly as bad as the HD25, but I plan on using the M100 for hours at a time, which probably won't work for me. But the XL pads are said to be very comfortable, but I wouldn't use the M100 for lounge music (though if you were with with the COP with it, you'll be fine with the M100, since I prefer the M100 midrange; I guess I'm just a midrange stickler).

So that basically leaves the P5 and Momentum. Which do you prefer? If it were me, I'd probably pick the Momentum because it's a little more realistic, but I've found the P5 for around $100 used here lately, and that's honestly a pretty good deal for them. I'm not the biggest fan of either (the P5 sounded too unnatural for most music, but was a very fun, warm listen and the Momentum was a little too treble-shy for me, but you seem to like that). If you can find either for cheap (under 200 quid for the Momentum and less for the P5) you should jump on it.

The K545 didn't impress me as much as I thought it would. I wasn't a fan of the build, the pads weren't nearly as nice as the K550, and the midrange was just as honky as the K550. I'd put it on the same level as the Momentum and a bit above the P5, but I wouldn't use the K545 for anything electronic. They were a bit on the slow side and didn't have as much bass as the Momentum. Honestly, I didn't think the Momentum or P5 were great for electronic too because of their lack of treble energy; the M100 is my current portable for electronic music and isn't as harsh as the COP.

Ooookay that was a long and pretty incoherent reply, so here's a TL;DR version:
If you want something that's fantastic with electronic music and about as good as your COP with anything else, the M100 fits the bill (get XL pads too).
I'd pick the Momentum over the P5, but I'm not the biggest fan of either with electronic music, but I don't have your ears so they might be great in your opinion, but I'd try to demo the M100 if you can.

Also, try to buy these used to save money. But before buying anything else, contact the seller of the COP so you don't have to drop a chunk of money when you don't have to.

I wouldn't be buying them instead of the COP - these are an addition to them. My COP are fantastic for home use, but have completely wrecked everything that has gone into the same case. I'm really looking for something that folds flat away in a bag, preferably with a hard case.

I'm struggling to find anywhere to buy second hand headphones, and unfortunately in the UK with high end audio equipment, it generally keeps it's money pretty well - especially with brands such as Sennheiser, B&O, B&W etc

I do love my COP (and it's definitely not a hair issue as it's getting worse - and I've checked to make sure) however the treble is harsh and becomes very degrading to listen to for extended periods of time. As previously stated, this is going to be for portable music - something I can use when at college without any sound leaking. I've found a pair of M100 with XL pads and everything for 210 GBP, but thats just out of budget for me, and quite a bit to spend on second hand headphones. I find the bass levels quite wearing after long periods of time too, and when using the ports to shut it off, it reduces the low frequencies as well as the punchiness, which I find to be a shame - it makes it sound, well just not very nice.

I was looking at the Bose AE2, but was slightly disappointed with the lack of separation and almost 0 treble, however at 100 GBP and just about the most comfortable headphones (more so than the P5 and Momentums) they're quite appealing.

The headphones don't need to replace my COP, just an addition to my headphone collection (on my 4th pair of Bose IE2 at the moment - I'm putting up with how long they last because they're the only earphones that feel comfortable). I've just ordered a MacBook Pro for college as well, so the headphones can be powered a bit better if need be.

Can you recommend any sites to get second hand audio equipment in the UK? I use HeadFi but there's a lack of UK availability - most items posted are customised equipment.

Oh, if they're a compliment, you probably should get something to compliment them rather than sound like them, so you can probably cross off the M100. They sound too similar to pay so much money for. Not to mention they do leak some sound (which I just found out today).

If you're paying retail for both, then I'd just pick the one that sounds better to you because my preferences are probably drastically different from yours and making recommendations at this point is more taste that absolute quality (well the Momentum is about 10% better than the P5, but also more expensive here). I can't really think of anything else that's both portable and more comfortable than the AE2; that's the one thing Bose really has down. The K545 comes close though, but I'm concerned you won't think they have enough low end. They have noticeably less bass than the Momentum.

And I don't know of any other places other than ebay and Amazon, sorry!

As long as they're remotely punchy (I like to be able to feel them on my head at certain frequencies like I can with my COP). I've just put a bid in for some P5s (unwanted present) at 130 GBP and I'm hoping to win them. I've found another site called AV forums but you need a certain amount of thanks to post on there, but they have a good range of headphones on there including Momentums.

The M100 look very appealing at the moment as I do love the sound of my COP, and with them being bassy and having the XL pads they seem to be the perfect headphones. From reviews I have seen, they seem to lack in very high end which might be a good thing. Unfortunately, due to the lack of a V-Moda shop here availability of 2nd hand cans is close to 0.

I'm going to go into Cardiff on Wednesday and I shall test out a few pairs of headphones and decide which I like the most.

Hey, I've got the new beats studio's I plug the charger cable in and all the lights come on, and stay on. After a while I unplug them try to turn them on, and they dont have power.

Any suggestion on what I'm doing wrong, or are they broken?
