You don't have to really, it's just a suggestion as it has helped me in the past. But it's unlikely that will sure it. But it's still worth doing.

It will do, but it reduces the life span on the drive. That comment above was aimed more towards the HDD, my bad...

The cpu maybe overheating,
check your temps when on bf3 and check them with no program open, just on desktop.
Download coretemp, thats what i use to monitor mine,
