I don't even know what the passport is used for, besides getting into different countries. So really not sure if they could do anything with your name and expiration date of the passport. I've never encountered a place/website where you have to put any information regarding your passport, or any other ID except license for that matter. You could search on google and you'll find some good stuff that'll answer your question most likely.

That happens alot. Usually they want some sort of way to verify that you're actually the owner of the credit card/paypal you used to pay them. They can't do anything with a picture of your ID/PASSPORT. If you want, you can even take a picture and hide everything except the name and date of expiration. Again, It's just a way to verify that you're in fact who you claim to be.

probably just to see that it is valid
