The problem is... I know nothing about Jtags. Could someone fill me in on details like how much they cost on average? How they practically work? etc....

They are usually 150+

A jtag console simply a normal console you would buy anywhere but someone has installed the modification to it, since a lot is known about the consoles now I would push you to order a Slim console since they are way less prone to have hardware problems.

thanks! I already have a slim, now would the jtag come seperate and i would have to apply it to my xbox? or does it come already applied to an xbox?

You can't JTAG a slim.

It seems like you aren't very familiar with anything that you are talking about.

So it is recommended that you:
A. Don't buy one.
B. If you really want one, buy one, don't do it yourself.

Just buy an RGH.

You don't want to buy a Jtag if you know nothing about them, it will be bricked soon enough and a complete waste of your money, check out the stickies or watch some video's on Youtube
