Hello I have a general understanding of what rooting is and what not... I have attempted to root my samsung gs3 because of complications like unlocking the boot loader...however I have a nexus 7 2013 edition, how difficult would it be to root it and is it safer than rooting a samsung gs3 brick wise. Thanks +Rep to anyone who answers.

Honestly, I think that most android phones are around the same (as for how hard it is to root..) Rooting is definitely the hard part, there aren't really multiple ways to do it that you need to test and see which one works..It's usually just one set method that (99% of the time) almost always works without any complications. The hard part is when you're going to switch to another ROM for your phone (custom-made variation of the OS for Android phones). If you need a good ROM, here is the Nexus 7 version of the one that I use which is clean, fast, and good battery life: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] and if you need help rooting your Nexus 7, here is a good tutorial: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
(both links are for 2013 edition!)

If you need any further help, feel free to message me (:

Nexuses(Nexii?) are always much much safer to root than any other android device. Its damn near impossible to brick a nexus but it can happen.

To root it all you need to do is download the Android SDK, unlock the bootloader(fastboot command: fastboot oem unlock), flash a modified recovery(CWM or TWRP), push the zipped root file to the device and flash it in your modified recovery and you're done.

Just remember modified recoveries and root files are usually specific to each device, so make sure to download the ones for the Flo Nexus 7.
Also note that unlocking the bootloader erases all of your device information.

Yes, its very safe. I would suggest using a one click root program, currently I am typing this on my rooted Nexus 2013 :-)
