One of my family members needs a new laptop for work. She will mainly use it for typing and web browsing. She's looking at a chrome book and she was wondering if their was anything cheaper or anything better for around the same price

I would only recommend chrome books if you are doing nothing more than just web browsing and simple word processing. They aren't really good for anything else.

Nay. because it is only meant for browsing the web.

If they are going to be doing anything else, I would not recommend it.

And I know its 60 dollars more, but [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] works for my mom. As a side computer.

It sounds like a Chromebook will do everything she needs. You simply won't find anything cheaper with the same functionality.

A thinkpad t60 with a SSD will be really good for that task.
