Hello. I recently built a computer. It is running Windows 8.1, has 8 GB of RAM and an i5 4670k processor. About a week ago, Firefox started freezing up whenever I'd download an image or file. I'd click download and then the whole browser would freeze for a few seconds. After it unfroze, the download would start. I initially thought it was a problem with Firefox, so I cleared my download history and cache. The problem persisted. I later edited an image with Microsoft Paint and attempted to save it. The whole program froze up and it took it a few seconds to unfreeze. Once unfrozen, the file saved.

I also noticed that Windows Explorer lags behind when displaying files. If I delete or make a copy of a file, the change won't show up unless I refresh the window. This whole thing is incredibly frustrating and I can't figure out what's up. I defragmented my hard drive, ran a disk cleanup, un-indexed my drive and still no luck. Any suggestions?

You probably have a virus on your computer, more likely Malware. Download Hitman pro, MalwareBytes and a AV program, then scan your computer for malware.
